The Minister of Education and Childcare is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a member of the Teacher Advisory Council.
- There are up to 15 available positions.
The Teacher Advisory Council is an advisory agency comprised of up to 15 teachers and teacher leaders in Alberta. Members of the Council provide input to the Minister of Education and Childcare on key priorities in Alberta’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 education system. The Council serves as a platform for voices from teachers and teacher leaders across Alberta to inform policy and practice.
Members are responsible for:
- attending all scheduled meetings;
- contributing actively and respectfully to discussions;
- adhering to the code of behavioural expectations and confidentiality agreement.
Appointments to the Council are made by Ministerial Order for terms up to 18 months, and may be eligible for reappointment.
Successful applicants may demonstrate the following competencies and skills:
- Relevant professional experience – The individual has teaching and/or leadership experience in a school in Alberta, school with expertise in one or more grade levels and subject areas. The individual is aware of and abides by the frameworks that govern the teaching profession in Alberta.
- Interpersonal and Relational Skills – The individual can communicate, collaborate, and build relationships while demonstrating understanding of the Council’s goals and respect for diverse perspectives. This includes clear communication, understanding organizational dynamics, and showing personal and social awareness in interactions with others.
- Cognitive and Analytical Competencies – The individual has the ability to think critically, make informed decisions, generate innovative solutions, and navigate change thoughtfully. This encompasses analytical judgment, creativity, and the capacity to understand complex issues while considering long term impacts.

Appointments to the Council are made by Ministerial Order for terms up to 18 months and may be eligible for reappointment.
Members will attend meetings during the months of September through June. Meetings will be convened as needed outside of school hours, understood to be between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and shall not exceed 90 minutes.
Meetings will be held online via Zoom. Members will be able to access meetings through any browser or device with an internet connection.
Members will not receive remuneration for their role. Members may be reimbursed for expenses incurred while absent from their ordinary place of residence and performing their duty as a member in accordance with the Government of Alberta’s Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive, as amended.
Final candidates will be asked to undergo a comprehensive background check including disclosure and conflict of interest screening and security screening.
