The Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a public member of the Advisory Council on Alberta-Ukraine Relations (ACAUR). Up to five public members are to be recruited with experience in the area of Alberta-Ukraine relations.
ACAUR was established on November 20, 2000, and serves as an advisory body to the Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism under the Government Organization Act and via Ministerial Order.
ACAUR is composed of a Chair and Public Members and may have up to 15 members in total.
Council members provide strategic advice and recommendations on ways to build relationships and enhance opportunities for cooperation with Ukraine and Alberta’s Ukrainian community.
The purpose of ACAUR is to:
- serve as a two-way information resource to Alberta’s Ukrainian community and the Government of Alberta on Alberta-Ukraine activities;
- identify and promote opportunities to strengthen and further cooperation between the governments of Ukraine and Alberta; and
- foster a better understanding of Ukraine-related matters by other provinces, territories and the Government of Canada.
ACAUR is a public agency that provides advice to the Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism on opportunities to further Alberta-Ukraine relations, including:
- serving as a two-way information resource to Alberta’s Ukrainian community and the Government of Alberta on Alberta-Ukraine activities; and
- identifying and promoting opportunities to strengthen and further cooperation between the governments of Ukraine and Alberta and
- fostering a better understanding of Ukraine-related matters by other provinces, territories and the Government of Canada.
Appointment term is up to three years, with the potential of re-appointment up to a maximum of six consecutive years.
Immigration and Multiculturalism will provide secretariat and policy support to ACAUR and its ongoing administrative, logistic and information needs. The Secretariat will ensure that communication, collaboration and cooperation with other Government of Alberta departments and entities are undertaken to ensure other departments are consulted and informed throughout the process as required.
ACAUR members are recruited based on a competency matrix to ensure that the advisory council has the capability and the range of skills and experience required to guide the organization. ACAUR members are expected to possess the following:

- Energy Experience
- Trade Development and Investment Attraction Experience
Personal Effectiveness Skills including:
- Leadership/Teamwork Experience
- Problem Solving Experience
- Communication Experience
- Consensus Building Experience
Ideal candidates will have specialized knowledge and experience in the area of Alberta-Ukraine relations; a passion for Ukrainian culture and history; and involvement with Alberta’s Ukrainian community. Knowledge of Ukrainian language will be considered an asset.

ACAUR members are not provided any remuneration for their role but are reimbursed for expenses incurred in the course of performing their duties as members in accordance with the Government of Alberta’s Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expense Policy.
The advisory council meets at least twice per year. The Chair of ACAUR will set the schedule for its meetings.
- Meetings are typically held in Edmonton, but on some occasions may be held virtually or in other cities as needed.
- The Chair reports to the Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism and ensures that meeting minutes are recorded and communicated in a concise, written format to the Minister, as appropriate, after each meeting.
