The Minister of Community and Social Services is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as Chair of the Premier's Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities (PCSPD).
The GoA is committed to engaging Albertans on how provincial policies and programs can best meet their needs. The GoA creates advisory boards as the means of hearing from citizens. The PCSPD is one of these boards.
Created under the Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Act , the PCSPD is responsible for providing advice regarding equal opportunities for persons with disabilities to reach their full potential and to engage in the life of the Province.
PCSPD will act strategically to ensure that input from a disability perspective is provided to key government policies.
PCSPD is established solely for the purpose of providing advice to the GoA, with no authority over budget or staff. PCSPD can have up to 15 appointments. This consists of one Chair, one Vice-Chair, two MLAs and 11 members.
The Chair is responsible for leading and effectively facilitating the work of PCSPD. Working closely with the members, you will oversee and ensure that it is fulfilling its mandate to provide advice to government to promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities to reach their full potential and to engage in the life of the Province. Chair is also responsible for public communications and annual evaluation of the performance of the PCSPD.
This opportunity is a Designated Office Holder and carries the implications of holding such a position under the Lobbyist Act.
As Chair, you will demonstrate the following:
- Be a person with a disability, have a family member with a disability or have a strong connection to the disability community and currently live in Alberta.
- Have proven record of accomplishment and experience and leadership skills in human resources, and overall board governance and management.
- Demonstrate ability to think strategically, inspire and motivate others.
- Experience and proven facilitation skills working with people with diverse experiences.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships.
- Strong connections and leadership at the local level to the disability community, stakeholders and service agencies.
- Comfortable with public speaking and working with the media, and able to clearly convey and receive messages that meet the needs of diverse groups.
- Demonstrate success achieving results and maintaining flexibility in adapting to changes in the external environment.
- Expertise identifying issues and assessing options and implications before providing advice.
- Demonstrate experience working within a PCSPD or board model, and working cooperatively and productively within a diverse team environment.
- Proven competency with Gmail and Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, email and internet. Proficiency with any adaptive software and/or devices needed for computer access or document creation.
- Have experience working with underrepresented groups e.g., people with disabilities, immigrants, youth, Indigenous peoples or mature workers.

The Chair is appointed for a term of up to three years.
This is a volunteer position. The Chair may receive remuneration for time spent on PCSPD business. Remuneration is based on Appendix 3, Schedule 1 of the Committee Remuneration Order (O.C. 466/2007).
Remuneration rates are:
- $169 - $219 for up to and including four hours, or
- $290 - $383 for over four hours and up to and including eight hours in any day, or
- $454 - $601 for over eight hours in any day, spent on the business of the Council.
PCSPD Members may be reimbursed for reasonable expenses necessarily incurred in the course of performing their duties in accordance with the Government of Alberta's Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expense Policy.
Time commitment varies. The PCSPD meets at least 4 times per year: these meetings are typically two days in length. PCSPD meets in person, in accordance with any public health orders in effect. Other meetings are by Zoom and teleconference.
Excluding the two-day meetings, the time commitment is approximately 25 to 30 hours per month averaged over a 12-month period.
Meetings are mainly based out of Edmonton or Calgary and occasionally various locations in the province.

- persons with disabilities,
- represent the lifespan and range of disabilities,
- Indigenous peoples,
- ethno-cultural groups,
