Role Required

The Minister of AFRED is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a member of the Alberta Agricultural Products Marketing Council (Marketing Council). There are 3 member positions available on the Board of Directors.

Location
Members of Marketing Council are located throughout the province, and Marketing Council meets virtually and/or in various locations throughout Alberta.
About the Agency

Marketing Council supports the establishment and operation of Alberta’s 20 agricultural Marketing Boards and Commissions, and advises the Minister on related matters.

Marketing Council facilitates the development and implementation of regulatory and governance frameworks, champions leadership and board governance development, and provides policy advice in support of Alberta’s agricultural industry.

Role Description

Members of Marketing Council support the Minister of AFRED through providing regulatory oversight and facilitating effective governance and leadership for the agricultural Marketing Boards and Commissions in the province.

Marketing Council members are appointed by Order in Council for a three-year term with a maximum of two terms.

Skills and Experience Required

Members of Marketing Council are proven leaders with extensive experience in the primary production, marketing or processing sectors of the agricultural industry, and possess in-depth knowledge of related governance issues. Specifically, Marketing Council is seeking members with experience and expertise in the livestock/crop industries and also in supply-managed sectors, including knowledge of provincial and national agricultural policy and regulations.

Excellent communication, collaboration and facilitation skills and a passion for building effective relationships, complemented by experience working with boards of directors, industry stakeholders and government are key for success in the role.

Remuneration and Time Commitment

All Members, except the Department Representative, are paid an honoraria and travel expenses as prescribed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council in Order in Council 466/2007, Schedule 1, Part A, effective April 1, 2009.

Up to 4 hours inclusive (half day) $164 

Over 4 hours and up to 8 hours inclusive (regular day) $290

Over 8 hours (extended day) $427
