Role Required

The President of Treasury Board, Minister of Finance is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of ATB Financial.

Location
ATB Financial is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta.
About the Agency

ATB Financial is an Alberta-based financial institution providing retail and business banking and investment and wealth management services. The legislative mandate of ATB Financial is established under the ATB Financial Act and the Alberta Treasury Branches Regulation, Alberta Regulation 187/97 and generally is to provide Albertans access to financial services and enhance competition in the financial services marketplace in Alberta.

ATB is guided by a single purpose: to transform banking, make banking work for people, and use banking to create happiness. In the almost 80 years since ATB was established, we've grown from one small Treasury Branch to become the largest Alberta-based financial institution, with assets of $48.5 billion.

Today, 5,000 team members help more than 725,000 customers in 244 Alberta communities. Like our clients, we're Albertans.

Through a network of more than 300 locations across Alberta, a Customer Care Centre, and two Entrepreneur Centres, we work with Albertans and their families, we support their businesses and we’re actively engaged in their communities. We stick by Albertans, we root for their success and we’re intensely proud of being Albertan through and through. We're especially proud of the 5000 team members who serve Albertans every day and, thanks to them, ATB is recognized as one of the top two places in Canada to work.

The position is located in Edmonton.

Role Description

As CEO of ATB:

You understand that ATB provides banking services, but ATB is so much more than that. ATB prides itself on being more than a bank. You’re passionate about telling that story to thousands of Albertans so they can experience it themselves. You understand that ATB can truly change people’s lives for the better and help bring their aspirations closer and happiness deeper. You understand that the business of banking is changing dramatically and that ATB is uniquely poised to re-imagine banking. You’re comfortable with disruption and are prepared to disrupt the status quo if it’s not achieving ATB’s purpose. You’re determined to lead innovation and continue the path ATB is on to become a leading edge, innovative company that just happens to be in the banking business. You know that customers expect ATB to deliver smart, simple and helpful services, perhaps even surprising them with services and tools they haven’t even thought of. You not only have ideas but you know how to get things done. You’re determined to keep building ATB’s reputation so we’re loved and respected by more and more Albertans.

You yearn to understand and connect – knowing that it’s the best way to create a culture of trust, transparency, innovation and collaboration that are needed to take ATB to the next level. You understand how technology is dramatically changing banking services and you see the potential for artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning and other new technologies to not only transform banking experiences for customers but also streamline and create greater efficiencies for the organization.

You’re committed to making ATB “the place to work” – to continue to find ways to make work engaging, inspiring, and fulfilling for all team members, and to keep raising the bar on workplace culture. You understand the value of collaboration, and want to harness it in new ways, knowing that collaboration leads to better solutions and greater innovation. You recognize the importance of listening and deeply understanding others. You know the importance of outstanding leadership, that team members have the right to work with great (not perfect) leaders and how this translates to outstanding results.

You have the courage and confidence to be fully transparent and to create an environment of deep trust in all team members and customers. You know what it’s going to take to become #1 in every market we’re in, and you can’t wait to deliver on it.

You know how to listen deeply and actively – to understand our customers and team members’ needs and concerns. You listen with your eyes, ears, and heart – you listen so that you can create happiness.

The CEO is appointed by an Order in Council.

Skills and Experience Required

A senior executive in the financial services sector, you have worked with a Board, grown a business, improved processes and practices and build robust relationships both inside and outside your organization. You have an outstanding track record as an inspiring leader of people and value the importance of creating and building an excellent culture within organizations you’ve worked for. Active in your community, you thrive in a front and centre role.

Remuneration and Time Commitment
