The Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) is seeking applications from individuals interested in the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

For close to eight decades, Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) has served as a Crown Corporation that supports and contributes to the diversification of Alberta’s economy. It is a provider of insurance products to agricultural producers, a source of lending capital to aspiring entrepreneurs, and supplier of sustainability programs to clients. Farmers, agri-businesses and commercial operations have come to know AFSC as a trusted source of unique financial services.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the Board Chair and is responsible for carrying out the policies of the Government of Alberta through the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
This position supports policy development and leads an Executive Leadership Team in responding to operational issues and challenges while achieving business plan goals and objectives. Engaging diverse stakeholders, delivering effective products, programs and services, and developing and maintaining relationships are all critical to achieving the overall strategic goals and vision of the Corporation.
One of the main responsibilities of the CEO is to direct the affairs of the Corporation and consult with the Board Chair, Minister and various ministries where matters of policy arise. In addition, the CEO will lead senior staff, manage significant resources, and support continuous learning and skills development.
The CEO is accountable to the Board Chair for providing the strategic leadership direction, which will ensure that AFSC’s vision, mission and goals are achieved.
Education
- A Bachelor's degree and / or a combination of relevant related experience is required.
- A related graduate or Master's degree, along with any relevant designations would be considered an asset.
Knowledge and Experience
- Significant executive business management experience in a large and highly complex organization, ideally in the financial and/or agriculture sectors.
- A strong knowledge of rural communities and businesses, along with the recognition of the importance of rural perspectives, diversification, and impact on the economy.
- Superior communication skills, particularly as it relates to AFSC's clients / customer base.
- Extensive related experience in a senior leadership role with proven success as a leader formulating plans and directing business to achieve superior results.
- A proven track record as an entrepreneurial leader, developing and carrying out policies and managing and controlling resources in client-oriented operations.
- Experience in leading major organizational change initiatives effectively and efficiently.
- A clear record of success in establishing ongoing positive relationships with a broad range of external stakeholders, a board of directors and various levels of government.
- Familiar with business processes and requirements, involved in the identification and delivery of tools that those processes need, including back-office applications customer-facing information and transactional systems. Business process analysis and redesign.
Technical
- Working knowledge of credit and lending practices and insurance markets including international re-insurance, as well as familiarity with traditional and emerging issues and concerns within the agricultural, agri-food industry and/or small business sectors would be assets.

This opportunity requires a full-time commitment. The position is based out of the AFSC Central Office in Lacombe, Alberta. The CEO is remunerated at a Senior Official classification, with a Base Salary Range $223,040-$301,760 under the Reform of Agencies, Boards and Commissions Compensation Regulation.
