The President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a Board member of the Alberta Capital Finance Authority (ACFA).
ACFA is a provincial corporation that provides local authorities with financing for capital projects. ACFA makes loans to Alberta municipalities, school boards and other local entities.

The ACFA Board is responsible for the governance of ACFA and for overseeing the management of ACFA’s business, and other ACFA affairs. The ACFA Board is responsible for:
- guiding ACFA’s strategic direction;
- evaluating the performance of the ACFA President; and,
- approving and monitoring the ACFA’s business plan, operational plan and financial results.
The ACFA Board has established an Audit Committee to assist the ACFA Board in carrying out its duties.
Appointments are made by Order in Council, for a fixed term up to three years.
The President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance may appoint a Chair or Vice-chair(s) from among Members of the ACFA Board by Ministerial Order.
Applicants must have business experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- commercial credit;
- financial management;
- accounting;
- investments;
- risk management;
- legal;
- information technology; or,
- public policy (federal, provincial and municipal levels of government).
Proven leadership, excellent communication skills, a track record of building consensus with multiple stakeholders, and the ability to be fair and open minded while exercising sound judgment are essential.
Demonstrated experience in board governance would be an asset.
Related post-secondary education and a related professional designation (such as an ICD.D, CPA, CFA or
CRM) are assets.
All ACFA Board Members are paid honoraria as prescribed by the Lieutenant Governor in Schedule 1, Part A of the Committee Remuneration Order (OC 466/2007), effective April 1, 2009.

Travel and living expenses are paid in accordance with the Government of Alberta's Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expense Policy.
Compensation is currently under review.
Members of the ACFA Board may reside anywhere in Alberta. The ACFA Board typically meets eight times per year, up to once per month for approximately two hours, with a break over the summer months. In addition, the ACFA Board meets for a two-day planning session in late May. The Audit Committee meets three times per year (March, June and October). The meetings are typically held in Edmonton.
