The President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a Member of Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (CUDGC) Board of Directors (Board). This posting will fill four Board Member positions.

CUDGC is a provincial corporation established under the Alberta Credit Union Act, with the mandate of providing risk-based regulatory oversight and a deposit guarantee to enable a safe and sound credit union system in Alberta. CUDGC’s primary roles are as follows:
- Provide a 100% guarantee of deposits held with Alberta credit unions;
- Regulate credit unions and enforce the Credit Union Act;
- review, advise and direct credit unions on sound business practices; and,
- Monitor credit union performance and implement appropriate actions to improve performance and reduce risks.

The Board is responsible for the stewardship of CUDGC and ensures its purposes and business activities as outlined in the Credit Union Act are fulfilled according to its Terms of Reference. Many Board functions are carried out by the three Board committees (Governance and Human Resources, Risk Management, and Audit and Finance) with committee recommendations considered by the Board. Board Members typically serve on two committees.
Appointments are made by Order in Council, for a fixed term of up to three years.
Applicants will have previous board experience in addition to a strong understanding of the financial services industry, well developed communication and interpersonal skills, and a high level of financial literacy. There is also a preference for applicants with a professional accounting designation (CPA), a legal background, a strong working knowledge of Alberta’s agricultural industry, an awareness and understanding of the composition and governance of cooperatives, and who reflect the geographic and diverse culture of Alberta.
All Board Members are paid honoraria as prescribed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council in Order in Council 466/2007, Schedule 1, Part A effective April 1, 2009 at two times the rate. A member of a committee, other than the chair, shall be paid:

Travel and living expenses are paid in accordance with the Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Policy.
Time commitment is less than 50 hours, annually of meetings, plus travel and preparation time. The Board and its three Board committees (Governance and Human Resources, Risk Management, and Audit and Finance) meet an average of four to six meetings per year, plus conference calls as necessary. Meetings are primarily held in Edmonton but also across the province. Board Members typically serve on two committees.
