The Minister of Treasury Board and Finance is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as a Board Member of Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission.
The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) is responsible for administering the Gaming and Liquor Act, Regulation and related policy. The AGLC focuses on ensuring the gaming and liquor activities in Alberta are conducted honestly, openly and with integrity. AGLC also focuses on maximizing the economic benefits of gaming and liquor activities in the province to benefit Albertans.
The Board receives policy direction from the Minister of Treasury Board and Finance, and in turn, plays a significant role in developing policy, implementation strategies, and advising the Minister. The responsibilities of the Board include ensuring the powers and duties or the AGLC are carried out, establishing policies, conducting hearings and making decision regarding licences and registrations. As a quasi-judicial tribunal, the Board conducts hearings and makes decisions with respect to licenses and registration that ensure the liquor and gaming industries are well-regulated and managed to benefit Albertans.
Understanding of related business and public policy issues, a commitment to good governance and accountability practices, and a reputation for integrity, fairness, and principled decision making are essential.
Ideal backgrounds reflect a track record of influential leadership and success in senior level roles within organizations. Administrative law or experience in quasi-judicial processes, service on significant corporate, government or community boards, experience with risk oversight and IT in a business environment, and familiarity with the gaming or liquor industries are considered assets.
This opportunity requires a commitment of three to six days per month and related travel. Board Members are remunerated by honorarium and travel expenses are reimbursed.
Order in Council 466/2007 - Schedule 1, Part A of the Committee Remuneration Order (effective 2009) prescribes remuneration for this position. The Board Member will be paid double the amount stated in O.C. 466/2007, and is as follows:
(a) $328 for up to and including 4 hours in any day, or
(b) $580 for over 4 hours and up to, and including, 8 hours in any day, or,
(c) $854 for over 8 hours in any day, spent on the business of the AGLC.
