Aalbers, Angela

Angela Aalbers is currently the county councillor for Mountain View County. Angela has international experience in the energy industry having worked for Shell in Europe (Netherlands) and Africa (Nigeria, Niger and Gabon) in executive roles. Angela has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Calgary as well as a Level 1 certificate in Local Authority Administration (NACLAA) from the University of Alberta.

Angela Aalbers was directly recruited and appointed to the Law Enforcement Review Board on the basis of meeting the following competencies, skills and attributes: strong leadership and communication skills, previous board experience, knowledge of administrative law.

Mahmood, Usman

Usman Mahmood is the managing partner at CKM Law LLP, specializing in criminal and immigration law. Previously he was an associate lawyer with EY Law LLP in Calgary practicing business immigration law. Usman has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Kingston University. He attended Osgoode Hall Law School and University of Victoria Law School. Usman Mahmood was directly recruited and appointed to the Law Enforcement Review Board on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes required by the Board.

McKenzie, David

After three years of practicing in commercial litigation, David McKenzie, KC, joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade as a Foreign Service Officer. He returned to private practice in 2000, joining Wilson Laycraft in 2019. He currently volunteers as Director of Connect Charter School and has previously served as the Director and President of the Children's Cottage Society of Calgary. David has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina. David McKenzie was directly recruited and appointed to the Law Enforcement Review Board on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes required by the Board.

Kelly, Kevin

Kevin Kelly is a lawyer who works with individuals, organizations and boards to help them resolve disputes. He has served on numerous boards, hearing panels and advisory committees. He has extensive training in arbitration, mediation, negotiation and conflict management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (1989) from the University of Victoria and Law degree (1993) from Cardiff School of Law and Politics.

Buick, Glen

Glen Buick spent much of his working life as a Foreign Service Officer and was formerly Assistant Deputy Minister in Alberta Culture. He is a member of the Edmonton Assessment Review Board, and formerly a lay Bencher with the Law Society of Alberta and an adjudicator on the Public members Roster of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. He served on a number of boards including the Edmonton International Jazz Festival and the Calgary Centre for Performing Arts. Glen has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University.

Foster, Victoria

Victoria Foster graduated from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2011, and is currently working towards her Masters of Law from the University of London. She is a sole practitioner in Red Deer and surrounding areas, practicing in the areas of family law and child welfare law. Ms. Foster serves as a member of the Human Services Appeal panel, where she sits on appeal hearings for AISH and income support matters. She is also a member on the Legal Aid Alberta Appeals Committee, as well as a member of the board of directors for the Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic. Ms. Foster is a member of the Red Deer Subdivision and Development Appeal Board and the Red Deer Appeal and Review Board, which deal with development and subdivision appeals, and bylaw appeals. She has also recently joined the board of directors of Vantage Community Services, which is an organization that helps youths, adults, and families with counselling, housing, life skills training, and in-house mental health treatment.

Selby, Joshua

Joshua Selby is a partner with Miller Thomson LLP, specializing in real estate law. He has been a pre-certified member of the Consumer Services Appeal Board, and is a former member of The City of Calgary’s Subdivision and Development Appeal Board. He is a member on various committees including the Commercial Real Property Subsection and Municipal Law Subsections of the Alberta branch of the Canada Bar Association, and BILD Calgary. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria. Joshua Selby was directly recruited and appointed to the Law Enforcement Review Board on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes required by the Board.

Esmail, Nadeem

Nadeem Esmail is a Senior Fellow in Health Policy Studies at the Fraser Institute and owns Swift Canadian Countertops. Nadeem has authored numerous comprehensive studies and articles on a wide range of topics including the cost of public health care insurance, international comparisons of health care systems, hospital performance, medical technology, and physician shortages. Nadeem has a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor’s degree, with honours, in Economics from the University of Calgary. Nadeem Esmail was directly recruited and appointed to the Law Enforcement Review Board on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes required by the Board.

Ahanonu, C. Nduka

Nduka Ahanonu is a trial lawyer with over 20 years of experience in the legal field. He is the Founder and Managing Lawyer at Duke Law Office. Prior to this, he worked as the Student-at-Law for Legal Aid Alberta and as a Legal Resource Officer for the Alberta Law Line. Nduka is an active member in the community and is currently serving as a Member on the Legal Aid Appeals Committee. He has a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Lagos, his Barrister-at-Law at Nigerian Law School and a Master of Laws at the University of Alberta.

Lali, Kanwal

Ms. Kanwal Lali has more than 17 years’ experience as a professional accountant. She has been the director of taxation at the City of Edmonton since 2012. Prior to that, she worked as senior manager in the Tax and Revenue Administration branch of Alberta Finance. She is actively engaged in her community. She has acted as a victim’s advocate for the Edmonton Police Service, volunteered on different community boards. Ms. Lali holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of London and a Management Development Certificate from the University of Alberta. She has also received Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified Management Accountant designations

Porter, Joel

Joel Porter is a practitioner and dispatcher with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and previously completed a career in law enforcement. Both of these careers exposed Joel to the issues surrounding mental health issues and treatment programs available in Alberta. In addition, Joel has also been appointed to the Alberta Transportation Safety Board and the Mental Health Review Panel Roster.

Hahn, Brian

Brian R. Hahn is the Chief Executive Officer of BILD Calgary Region, a not-for-profit association involved in supporting all aspects of land development and the home-building industries. Prior to leading BILD Calgary Region, Brian progressively advanced in ATCO Gas, ATCO Pipelines, and Canadian Western Natural Gas. He has sat on many boards and committees, including STARS and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Brian has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Portland, and has completed several management programs. Brian R. Hahn was directly recruited and appointed to the Law Enforcement Review Board on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes required by the Board.
