Beckett, Jim

Jim Beckett was born, raised, educated, employed and retired in Edmonton Alberta.


After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta, Jim began a 37 year career with Alberta Power, which became part of the ATCO Group and was renamed ATCO Electric. At retirement, Jim was Executive Vice President and Chief Regulatory Officer of the ATCO Utilities.


Jim has volunteered extensively with the University of Alberta (Alumni Association, Engineering Faculty Advisory Board, Board of Governors, and Senate.)

As part of the engineering profession, Jim was active in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), rising to the position of President. He was also President of Engineers Canada, the national organization of regulatory of the engineering profession.


Jim is also an Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of an Alberta-based combat engineer regiment of the Canadian Army reserves.


Jim and his wife Anita continue to reside in Edmonton where they enjoy travelling and spoiling their two recently arrived grandchildren.
