Bhullar, Tajinder

Ms. Tarjinder Bhullar is a communications strategist with the Calgary Police Service and the Director of the Manmeet Singh Bhullar Charitable Foundation. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Communications and Technology from the University of Alberta, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Calgary and a Broadcasting diploma from SAIT.

Huang, John

Dr. John Huang is an ophthalmologist and Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. He has served on many boards including the Eye Physicians and Surgeons Society of Alberta, Alberta Medical Association, the University Eye Foundation, American Society of Cataract and the Refractive Surgery Executive Committee.

Monea, Duane

Mr. Duane Monea is the Administrator-CEO and Principal Advisor to the Chair of the Real Estate Council of Alberta. Prior he was the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs with MEG Energy. He served as a member on the YMCA Calgary Board of Directors and was the past Chair of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta.

Baker, Richard

Mr. Richard Baker is the President of BRE Group and Res-Solve Solutions. He has over 38 years of experience in reservoir engineering, simulation, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), and thermal projects. He has held senior engineering positions at both Shell and Husky Oil. He is a Distinguished Author Member of the Petroleum Society of The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and has received numerous engineering and service awards. Mr. Baker holds a master’s degree in petroleum engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary.


Competencies required for members of the senate of The University of Calgary include relationship building and community partnerships. Mr. Baker was directly appointed on the basis of meeting these competencies as described above.

Rakka, Ali

Mr. Ali Rakka is a Career Advisor and Personal Development Coach at Columbia College and is a certified Career Development Professional. He currently serves as a member on the Premier’s Council on Multiculturalism. He holds a Human Services Professional diploma (with Distinction) from Columbia College and a certificate specializing in Career and Academic Advising from the University of Calgary.


Competencies required for members of the senate of The University of Calgary include relationship building and community partnerships. Mr. Rakka was directly appointed on the basis of meeting these competencies as described above.
