Lougheed, Joseph
Joe Lougheed is a partner at Dentons Canada LLP (Calgary) and a member of the firm’s National Board of Directors. His practice specializes in general corporate law, private equity, private mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the legal profession, Mr. Lougheed was appointed King’s Counsel by the Government of Alberta in 2024.
A dedicated community leader, Mr. Lougheed is the former board chair of Calgary Economic Development and a former director of the $100 million Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund. He has also chaired the boards of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Mr. Lougheed’s governance experience is extensive, including service on the boards of the United Way of Calgary, Dalhousie University, and Queen's University. Mr. Lougheed’s commitment to public service has been recognized with both the King Charles III Coronation Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Educated at Queen's University, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Dalhousie Law School, Mr. Lougheed also serves as the Honorary Consul for Sweden in Alberta and was named an Officer of the Royal Order of the Polar Star in 2019. As a fourth-generation Albertan, Mr. Lougheed is proud of his Métis heritage and his family’s deep roots in Western Canada.
Martineau, Chana
Chana Martineau is the CEO of the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC), a Crown corporation dedicated to fostering Indigenous prosperity through strategic investments in the province’s natural resource, agriculture, transportation, and telecommunications sectors.
A proud member of the Frog Lake First Nation on Treaty 6 territory, Ms. Martineau brings nearly 20 years of executive experience to her role, having previously held senior leadership and vice president positions at Canadian Western Bank and Ernst & Young LLP. Throughout her career, she has been a prominent advocate for inclusion, specifically championing the advancement of women and Indigenous peoples in leadership.
Ms. Martineau’s governance background includes serving as a board director for Cenovus Energy and Alamos Gold, as well as chairing the Enterprise Risk, Finance and Audit Committee for a national sport organization. She is also an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, underscoring her commitment to excellence in strategic leadership.
Ms. Martineau holds a degree in Economics from the University of Alberta and has earned the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Karvinen, Jouko
Jouko Karvinen is a distinguished business executive with a career defined by the strategic leadership of multinational corporations and deep expertise in corporate governance. He currently serves as the chair of Solidium Oyj, the Finnish state-owned holding company responsible for managing a portfolio of nationally significant listed companies.
Mr. Karvinen’s foundational experience in the industrial sector began at ABB Asea Brown Boveri Ltd., where he held various leadership roles from 1980 to 2002, ultimately serving as Group Executive Vice President. He subsequently transitioned into the healthcare and materials sectors, leading the medical division at Royal Philips as CEO from 2002 to 2006, and later serving as CEO of the global paper and packaging firm Stora Enso Oyj until 2014.
Beyond his corporate career, Mr. Karvinen has held several high-profile non-executive positions within global public companies. His governance experience includes serving as vice chair and audit committee chair of Nokia Plc, chair of Finnair Plc (the national airline of Finland), and a board member for Valmet Oy and SKF AB Sweden. He has also contributed to global executive education as a member of the supervisory and foundation boards of IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Mr. Karvinen holds a Master of Science in Technology from Tampere University of Technology.
Curzon, Jacqueline
Jacqueline Curzon is an accomplished executive and board director with extensive experience in mining, energy, transportation, pensions, and finance. Her career is defined by a blend of legal and financial acumen, strengthened by expertise in corporate governance and strategic leadership across multiple business sectors.
Ms. Curzon currently serves as the Executive Director of Arkas International, an integrated transportation firm managing maritime and land trading services across the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. She is also a member of the board at Clairfield International, a leading mergers and acquisitions advisory firm operating in more than 30 countries.
Beyond her executive roles, Ms. Curzon is an influential figure in the Swiss economic landscape. From 2022 to 2025, she served as vice-chair and subsequently chair of the board for the Pension Fund of the State of Geneva. Ms. Curzon also represents the maritime sector on the board of the Fédération des Entreprises Romandes (FER), Switzerland’s premier umbrella organization for employers and economic entities.
Ms. Curzon holds an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, law degrees from King’s College London and the Sorbonne, and a postgraduate diploma in corporate governance.
Ritchie, Mary
Mary Ritchie is a specialist in risk management and fiscal accountability, with over 30 years of experience as a director and audit committee chair for numerous public companies. Her career is defined by high-level oversight of industries vital to the Alberta economy, most notably in the finance and energy sectors.
In the Canadian investment and banking sectors, Ms. Ritchie has held key positions with the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), RBC Global Asset Management, Alaris Equity Partners, and iA Financial Group. Her energy and natural resources experience is equally extensive, with tenure as board chair of Canada Hibernia Corporation, vice-chair of EPCOR, and a director for Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. and Morien Resources. Additionally, she has provided advisory services for Natural Resources Canada and critical oversight for the Trans Mountain pipeline through the Canada Development Investment Corporation. Ms. Ritchie’s governance experience also extends into pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, real estate, and technology through board positions with firms such as Miravo Healthcare, Enwave Corporation, CREIT, and Softchoice.
Beyond the corporate boardroom, Ms. Ritchie has served as a strategic advisor to both the Privy Council of Canada and the Government of Alberta. Her distinguished service has been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, the YWCA Tribute to Women Award, and the University of Alberta’s Alumni Honour Award.
Ms. Ritchie holds both the Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) and Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA) designations.
Thompson, Stephen
Stephen Thompson is the Assistant Deputy Minister for Treasury and Risk Management for the Government of Alberta, where he directs the province’s capital markets activities, including treasury, risk, and asset management. Since joining the government in 2013, he has leveraged over 25 years of senior capital markets experience following a successful career in commercial and corporate banking. In his current role, Mr. Thompson leads the teams responsible for Alberta’s global funding activities and execution of debt management strategies, and maintains vital relationships with international investor communities to market the province worldwide.
Beyond debt management, Mr. Thompson has overseen investment strategy and policy development for the $32 billion Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund and other provincial endowments. Notably, he has been instrumental in efforts to revitalize the Fund through the creation of the Heritage Fund Opportunities Corporation.
A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) with degrees in Finance and Economics from Saint Mary’s University, Mr. Thompson also dedicates his time to several non-profit organizations. His volunteer work focuses on financial literacy, credentialing, and market ethics, reflecting a career-long commitment to financial integrity.
Savin, Robert
Robert Savin is co-founder of WealthBridge and Chief Compliance Officer for WealthBridge Investment Counsel Inc., where he provides high net worth clients with expertise in investment management, financial planning, and complex estate structures. His career is defined by over two decades of leadership within Canadian financial institutions. In 2001, Mr. Savin founded and served as President of CWM Funds Inc. before being named a partner in the Canadian Wealth Management Group in 2002. He was subsequently appointed the Group’s President in 2005, eventually leading the firm through its 2008 acquisition by Société Générale.
A dedicated community leader, Mr. Savin is currently the board chair of TransRockies Group and serves as a director for FitzRoyalty, Stoked Oats, and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. His background in governance includes a past chairmanship at YMCA Calgary and board roles with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Northern Vision Development LP.
A business graduate of the University of Regina, Mr. Savin is a member of the Calgary Estate Planning Council and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and has completed the ICD.D Directors Education Program, reflecting his deep commitment to professional excellence and corporate oversight.
Svarva, Olaug
Olaug Svarva is a distinguished finance executive with extensive leadership experience in investment management and corporate governance. Since 2018, Ms. Svarva has chaired the board of DNB Bank, Norway’s leading financial services group, which manages significant global operations in shipping, renewables, and energy. Ms. Svarva also chairs Norfund, a government-owned specialty finance institution providing equity and risk capital to drive sustainable development and renewable energy transitions in developing regions.
From 2006 to 2018, Ms. Svarva served as CEO of the Government Pension Fund Norway (Folketrygdfondet), the nation’s largest financial investor. In this role, she built a highly respected organization by establishing a rigorous investment philosophy centered on strong corporate governance. Ms. Svarva’s current leadership roles extend to chairing the Advisory Investment Committee of UNOPS (the operational arm of the United Nations) and serving as a board member for the Institute of International Finance, and the Alfred Nobel Norwegian Memorial Foundation.
Ms. Svarva holds an MBA from the University of Denver and is an authorized portfolio manager through the Norwegian Society of Financial Analysts.
Potter, David
David Potter is a distinguished senior banking and finance executive with over 30 years of international investment banking experience, primarily within the global energy sector. As a strategic advisor to corporate leadership and boards, he has successfully navigated complex domestic and cross-border transactions, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, capital structuring, and financing. Mr. Potter’s experience spans the energy spectrum – from traditional oil and gas to emerging clean technologies – giving him comprehensive insight into the industry's ongoing growth and transition.
During his tenure at Scotiabank, Mr. Potter held prominent leadership roles, including Head of Global Energy and Head of Global Energy Investment Banking. In these capacities, he managed multi-jurisdictional operations across the institution’s integrated lending and investment banking platforms.
Mr. Potter’s professional leadership is complemented by a strong commitment to community-based organizational governance. As a board director for YMCA Calgary, he has served as chair of the Audit, Investment and Risk Committee during a phase of significant operational expansion.
