Matthews, Patricia

Ms. Matthews is the former Mayor of Chestermere and the current Chief Executive Officer of a consulting firm. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and an Institute of Corporate Directors designation.

Bruce, Christopher

Mr. Bruce holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration – Financial Services from Dalhousie University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers, and he has an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Mr. Bruce is a retired banking executive with 36 years of experience. He also has extensive experience in board governance with not-for-profit entities.

Lazar-Tippe, Rita

Ms. Lazar-Tippe’s professional experience spans across financial, environmental, entertainment, publishing, engineering, and education industries, which are dominated by regulatory and risk compliance issues. Ms. Lazar-Tippe holds a diploma in Computer Systems Technology and an Information Systems Technology Degree with Honours, both from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. She is also an experienced not-for-profit Director with over 12 years of board experience, as well as 29 years of information technology experience in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.

Jeworski, Jay

Jay Jeworski is a Loss Adjuster at Charles Taylor Adjusting in Calgary with over a decade of experience in the insurance industry and currently specializes in handling complex industrial and energy sector claims for various domestic and international Insurers.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Project Management Professional certificate, a Insurance Institute of Canada Fellowship and is an Accredited Insurance Broker and Risk Manager.

Vavrek, Vincent

Mr. Vavrek is an advising retired partner at Fletcher Mudryk LLP, after 25 years in partnership at the firm. He also has an Institute of Corporate Directors designation (ICD.D). He has extensive experience in accounting, financial planning, and management. Mr. Vavrek is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants Alberta Board, the Alberta Blue Cross Board, and the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Board of Directors. He has also been a member of nine other boards and organizations, including the Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta and the Grand Prairie District Chamber of Commerce.

Hotte, Jamie

Mr. Hotte was first appointed to the AIRB as a public member on June 1, 2020. He has obtained his Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional designation and is a senior insurance executive with decades of experience on numerous boards and committees. Mr. Hotte currently lives in Edmonton, and he is CEO of CPA Insurance Plans West.

Merriman, Chris

Chris Merriman is a finance, accounting, regulatory and policy executive with over 30 years’ experience spanning Indigenous-owned entities, publicly traded companies, government business enterprises, regulatory bodies and the Government of Alberta. His experience with ATB Financial, the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation (Alberta) and now the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance, has provided Chris a broad experience in financial services, legal, regulation, legislation and policy. Chris is the past co-regional director of the Professional Risk Managers International Association and helped to lead and be an integral part of five Canadian Risk Forums and many other risk-related events. Chris holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with a Business Administration Accounting (honours).

Manten, Catherine

Ms. Manten is a Certified General Accountant with more than 20 years of experience as a financial controller in the automotive industry. She has extensive knowledge and experience as a board member providing key financial data relating to automotive retail. Ms. Manten was first appointed to the AIRB as a public member on June 1, 2023. Ms. Manten is Corporate Group Controller of Kaizen Automotive Group.
