Bourque, Sharon

Sharon Bourque is a citizen of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and currently works as its Director of Justice. She is passionate about serving the community and believes in the power of relationship building and bringing people together to create change. Sharon is a retired police officer and teacher and brings a wealth of experience to her roles. She has sat on numerous boards and committees over the years. Sharon has a Master of Education, Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies, and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Alberta. Sharon Bourque was appointed to the Public Security Indigenous Advisory Committee based on that individual’s skills, knowledge and experience.

Manywounds, Teddy

Teddy Manywounds is the Justice and Public Safety Director, G4 Stoney Nakoda Tsuut’ina First Nations, providing tools and resources to support creating inclusive equity in the Tsuut’ina Nation. Teddy has volunteered with numerous organizations including the Bear Clan Patrol assisting the vulnerable Frist Nations population of Calgary and is the creator and developer of the ‘We are Here Podcast’ for Tsuut’ina Nation. Teddy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Parsons New School for Design, New York City. Teddy Manywounds was appointed to the Public Security Indigenous Advisory Committee based on that individual’s skills, knowledge and experience.

Jackson, Darlene

Darlene Jackson works as a Municipal Councillor for the MD of Opportunity. She has 35 years of service as an Office Manager with the RCMP in Wabasca and organized a multitude of events held by the RCMP. Darlene is a former Victim Services Advocate and was also a Court Detail with the local Restorative Justice. Darlene has a degree in Office and Business Administration. Darlene Jackson was appointed to the Public Security Indigenous Advisory Committee based on that individual’s skills, knowledge and experience.

Dyck, Nolan

Nolan Dyck was elected MLA for Grande Prairie on May 29, 2023 and serves as Parliamentary Secretary for Indigenous and Rural Policing. Nolan is an entrepreneur who started his first construction company at 18. Nolan volunteered with the Disturbing the Peace Youth Conference and was president of a local constituency association. He holds a Bachelor of Biblical Studies from the Peace River Bible Institute. Nolan is a dedicated husband and father, who is passionate about strong communities and advocating for families in the Grande Prairie region. Nolan Dyck was appointed to the Public Security Indigenous Advisory Committee based on that individual’s skills, knowledge and experience.

Thiessen, Earl

Earl Thiessen is a dedicated leader with 13 years’ experience in the addictions and mental health sector, with a special interest in the development of supportive housing and the well-being of marginalized populations. He provides an Indigenous perspective and has family members with cognitive and behavioural issues due to substance use disorders. Earl sits on the Calgary Mental Health and Addiction Leadership Group, Calgary Aboriginal Urban Affairs Committee and the province’s CSS Coordinated Community Response to Homelessness Task Force.

Competencies required for members of the Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities include critical and strategic thinking skills, disability community stakeholder knowledge, and leadership/teamwork skills. Earl was directly recruited and appointed on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes as described above.
