Christie, Joel
Dr. Joel Christie has over forty years of direct senior and executive management experience and specializes in the management of strategic change in complex organizations. Dr. Christie has co-authored three books, The Nurturing Leader: A Toolkit for Every Season of Organizational Growth, A Guide to Collaboration: Working Models of Comprehensive Community Projects, and Becoming Real Workbook: Further Along the Authentic Journey. Dr. Christie received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Alberta) for his work in the community and social service sector.
Competencies required for the Premier’s Council on Charities and Civil Society include knowledge of specific social challenges, awareness of government and public policy, and experience with community and stakeholder relations. Members must also have good leadership and teamwork skills. Dr. Christie was recruited and appointed on the basis of acceptably meeting the competencies, skills and attributes as described above.
Hassan, Hyder
Hyder Hassan is the CEO of Immigrant Services Calgary, which provides a wide range of settlement services to immigrants and refugees looking to begin their lives in Canada. He is co-founder of Fullsoul Canada, a not-for-profit equipping hospitals in Uganda with medical supplies. Hyder is a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary Fish Creek and Chair of their vocational committee. He hold a Bachelor of Arts, Management Services from the University of Waterloo, a certificate in project management from York University, and a certificate in financial markets from the Yale School of Management.

Lovely, Jackie
Jackie Lovely was elected to the Legislative Assembly representing Camrose on April 16, 2019. She is a member of the Standing Committees on Public Accounts, Families and Communities, Legislative Offices, Privileges and Elections, and Standing Orders and Printing. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (University of Saskatchewan), a diploma in hotel/restaurant administration (Saskatchewan Polytechnic) and an MBA (Cape Breton University). Her community involvement includes the Camrose and Leduc chambers of commerce.

O'Neill, Liz
Ms. O’Neill is the executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area. She is well-known in the non-profit community and has been recognized for her collaboration with other agencies to provide mentoring for youth. She has received the Government of Canada 125 Anniversary Medal, the Alberta Centennial Medal, the Excellence in Community Service Award from the Intercultural Dialogue Institute of Edmonton and was inducted into City of Edmonton’s Community Service Hall of Fame.

Redwood, Kirby
Kirby Redwood is Saulteaux-Cree from Cowessess First Nation. He is the CEO/Lead Oskâpêwis (cultural helper) of Miskanawah Community Services Association, a social service organization offering programs for children, youth and families in Calgary. Kirby holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (Mount Royal College), a Master of Arts in Leadership (Royal Roads University), and an MBA (Australian Institute of Business). Mr. Redwood has over 30 years of experience working and volunteering in the social services sector, including in the areas of children services, adult education, and justice.

Garrick, Lorette
Ms. Garrick is the CEO of the George Spady Centre Society, a non-profit society providing innovative services to people with complex challenges associated with substance use related disorders and homelessness in Edmonton. Ms. Garrick is a registered Social Worker with the ACSW. She is past Chair of the Alberta Addiction Services Providers, and has served on numerous boards, committees, and task forces focused on addressing homelessness, substance-use related disorders, the opioid crisis, and mental health issues experienced by vulnerable Albertans. She is currently a surveyor for Accreditation Canada, a health standards organization.
