Fahselt, Dean

Mr. Dean Fahselt is an industry leader in agriculture development and management. He has served in numerous areas of agriculture production and agri-business, and he is one of the original founders of the Ag-Summit Alliance. Mr. Fahselt is currently the Chief Executive Officer of AgLink Canada and Director with AgLink International. He is a Certified Crop Advisor and has a two-year diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.


Competencies required for members of The Board of Governors of Lakeland College include the core competencies of leadership and governance, as well as preferred competencies of finance, human resources, legal, risk management, and/or strategic planning. Mr. Fahselt was directly appointed on the basis of meeting the competencies, skills, and attributes as described above.

Lessard, Sean

Dr. Sean Lessard is an Associate Professor, Teacher Education and Indigenous Education and the Interim Director of the Centre for Research and Teacher Education Development at the University of Alberta. He serves on several boards, including Change Health Alberta, Everactive Schools, and Spirit North. He holds a PhD in Elementary Education, a master of education degree in Educational Psychology, and a bachelor of education degree in Social Studies/Native Studies from the University of Alberta.

Dr. Lessard was directly appointed on the basis of meeting the competencies, skills, and attributes as described above.

Smith-Fraser, Kelly

Ms. Kelly Smith-Fraser is the General Manager with NuHaven Cattle Co. She serves as Chair of the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation, member of Careers: The Next Generation, and member of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Foundation. Previously, she has served on many boards, including the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, Results Driven Agriculture Research, Alberta Beef Producers, and Canadian Maine-Anjou Association. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Texas Tech University and an Associate Arts degree from Western Texas College.

Ms. Smith-Fraser was directly appointed on the basis of meeting the competencies, skills, and attributes as described above.

Waterman, Adam

Mr. Adam Waterman recently joined Cargill as a Project Engineer at their Canola Refinery. He is an active community volunteer serving in several roles, including President of the Lloydminster Oilfield Technical Society and Director of the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show Executive Committee. He is a professional engineer and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Fredericton and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Science degree program at Georgetown University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst candidate.

Mr. Waterman was directly appointed in May 2020 as a public member on the basis of meeting the competencies, skills, and attributes as described above.

Fischer, Brent

Mr. Brent Fischer is the Farm Manager and Shareholder of Pleasantview Farms. He currently is the Chair of the Hardisty Feeder Association, President of the Irma & District School Enhancement Society, and a Director with the Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright UCP Constituency Association. He holds an Agricultural Mechanic Certificate from Olds College.

Mr. Fischer was directly appointed on the basis of meeting the competencies, skills, and attributes as described above.

Shackel-Hardman, Barb

Ms. Barb Shackel-Hardman is the Director of Ag Services with Parkland County. Prior, she held several different positions with Alberta Agriculture from 1989 to 2019. She serves as a director with the Stony Plain Seed Cleaning Cooperative, member of the Parkland Country Library, board member with the Alberta Livestock Industry Development Fund, representative with Alberta Farm Animal Care, and Co-Chair of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance Livestock Committee. She holds professional affiliations with the Canadian Agriculture Extension County, the Alberta Institute of Agrologists, and the Association of International Agricultural and Extension Education.

Mechor, Trisha

Ms. Trisha Mechor has been the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Agricultural Sciences at Lakeland College since December 2017. Prior, she was a Training Programs Assistant at Lakeland College’s Emergency Training Centre. She holds a Human Resource Management Certificate from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and an Administrative Professional Certificate from Metro Community College. She has also completed levels one and two of the Fundamentals of Supervision and Management from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Arychuk, Holly

Ms. Holly Arychuk is enrolled in her first year of the Agricultural Sustainability diploma program at Lakeland College.

Winter, Jaydon

Mr. Jaydon Winter is enrolled in the General Business Diploma program at Lakeland College. He will be entering his first year of the Bachelor of Commerce degree program at Lakeland College in the fall of 2023. He is currently the Scaffolding Foreman and L&L Oilfield Construction and is a Journeyman Scaffolder and Insulator.

Njoroge-Kaai, Wanjiku

Ms. Wanjiku Njoroge-Kaai is a public services librarian with more than 30 years of experience with the Lakeland College community. She has extensive experience in library instruction, reference services, academic research assistance, and library collection development. She previously served as the academic staff member on The Board of Governors of Lakeland College from 2014 to 2018 and served on the board’s Connectivity Committee. Ms. Njoroge-Kaai holds a Master of Library Science degree from Northern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
