Drainage Council

Reist, John

John Reist was previously the chair and board member of the Hay Lakes Drainage District #11. He is a firm believer in the importance of the drainage districts. He worked in the dairy industry for over 40 years, and for 25 of those years he was the owner/operator of J&W Dairy. He also spent many years on the Hay Lakes Agricultural Society as well as various church boards. He also served on the Lucerne Milk Producers Board. John holds a high school diploma.

Soehn, Carlin

Carlin Soehn is an Operations and Infrastructure Manager for Water Infrastructure Operations Branch within Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation. His 17 years with the department have been focused around water infrastructure and water management. As the government representative member on Drainage Council, he acts as a department liaison and administrator, and advises the members regarding legislation, regulations or policy that affects drainage districts or district ratepayers. Carlin holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science/Geography from the University of Alberta.

Majek, Stephen

Stephen was born in Chatham, Ontario, a small City in Southern Ontario, surrounded by farmland consisting of tomatoes, com, tobacco and various vegetables. Stephen received a Diploma in Agriculture from Olds College majoring as an Agricultural Fieldman in Land Resource Management in 1993, graduating with honors. He attained a Certificate of Qualification as an Agricultural Fieldman in 1995 and sat as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Association of Alberta Agricultural Fieldmen (AAAF) for seventeen years. Stephen started as an Agricultural Fieldman for the County of Thorhild in 1995, moving to his current position as the Director of Agricultural Services at the County of Wetaskiwin in 1999. Stephen and his wife Michelle raised four children, three boys and a girl. In his spare time, Stephen has been a carded basketball official for the past 29 years at the High School Level and the past 21 years at the ACAC (College) Level.
